Welcome to the University of Portsmouth Academy Trust

The University of Portsmouth Academy Trust (UPAT) has been established to improve educational outcomes and life chances for local communities in the Portsmouth Harbour region.

New CEO (interim) and Primary Director(interim) appointments made at UPAT

We are delighted to announce that Mrs Gwennan Harrison-Jones will take over as CEO (interim) with Mr Haydn Mitton as Primary Director (interim) at UPAT with immediate effect. Gwennan and Haydn will lead UPAT into a ‘coexistence’ alongside their existing trust, The Gateway Trust. This coexistence, supported in principle by the DfE, will enable both trusts to continue the fantastic school improvement work they have undertaken with their existing schools and enable the exploration of the possibility of a more formal partnership in the future.

UPAT Board of Trustees would like to thank Mrs Marion Clist for her tireless work as CEO of UPAT to date. Her leadership has been instrumental in the schools working so closely together in partnership to ensure all pupils are able to receive the very best experience in their respective school enabling them to be the very best they can be with belonging, becoming and being at the heart of the UPAT partnership.

We welcome Gwennan and Haydn to UPAT. We are excited for them to lead us into the next phase of our exciting development as a multi academy trust. Should you wish to contact Gwennan or Haydn, please do so using ceo@upat.org.uk

Cottage Grove Primary School & Nursery

What makes Cottage Grove unique is its diversity; something all staff and children are incredibly proud of. At the time of writing, we have over half of our children who have English as an additional language and over 40 different languages spoken by our children. Our vision statement of “Success for All” encompasses and gives reason to all that we do.

We are an inclusive school and have a strong inclusion provision to support our children and families. Our pastoral team work tirelessly across the school supporting children with social and emotional needs as well as ensuring that they are kept safe. Our Family Support Coordinator also works with a number of parents to support them and improve the lives of our children. We have set up inclusion style provisions across the school to ensure the children are as successful as they can be.

We are proud to be a founding member of the University of Portsmouth Academy Trust and are keen to continue shaping the way is moves forward. Collaboration is at the heart of all we do, both in school and across the trust and we are enjoying supporting and benefitting from the support of the current members.

Although we are an inner-city school, our grounds are a strong feature, comprising of a large MUGA, an adventure playground and other outdoor areas that we are keen to develop to support the children with accessing the curriculum as well as having dedicated areas for mental health and wellbeing. Our newly formed Eco Warriors are playing an integral part in their design!

Our curriculum is designed to celebrate and meet the needs of our diverse cohorts. We ensure that key people from across all cultures are taught and that children have content from across foundation subjects to include in their writing. The school’s values are Respect, Acceptance, Achievement, Perseverance and Independence and run throughout our curriculum.

Milton Park Primary School

What makes Milton Park unique is…

Milton Park Primary School is a special place to be and learn, not only for the pupils but also for the adults. Our school is a happy one, supported by a fantastic team of hard-working children and adults. We are committed to providing an engaging and exciting learning environment where the children develop a love of learning. The children are at the heart of everything we do.

We pride ourselves on providing early help and support to remove any barriers to learning together with an education, resulting in excellence and enjoyment. All of our children are valued, well supported and empowered to do their best and be happy. Our positive ethos throughout school is based on high expectations and our learning community’s well-being has a lot to do with the quality of relationships, cohesion, inter-dependence and belonging. Our values of respect, pride, community, kindness, positivity, and inclusivity are an integral part of school life and support the ethos of the school.

Every day is a chance to ensure we are providing our pupils with the knowledge and skills required to live in modern Britain as responsible citizens. Our curriculum is engaging, challenging and inclusive for all pupils. We are a unique place where children thrive and grow to become independent, confident young learners. We achieve and most of all enjoy our experiences and the joy and wonder of learning.

We are a highly inclusive school that values the contributions made by each child and their family and are proud of the cultural and linguistic diversity of our school and its community. We also have a 16 place Inclusion Centre which takes children from all over Portsmouth, supporting pupils whose primary need is in the area of social communication and interaction, this includes children with Autism Spectrum Condition.

We are extremely proud to be a founding member of the University of Portsmouth Academy Trust and as part of a thriving community of schools we look forward to benefiting from the ability to share, learn, support and challenge each other as we grow together.

Woodcot Primary School

What makes Woodcot unique is its friendly, family feel. Children flourish in our happy and successful one form entry school on the Gosport and Fareham border. Our school motto of ‘happy children - high standards' underpins all that we do and aligns perfectly with the University of Portsmouth Academy Trust (UPAT) values of belonging, being, becoming. We are proud to be a founding member of UPAT with schools who share our commitment to inclusion, well-being and high aspirations for personal growth and achievement.

We have designed our curriculum so that our children become confident, enthusiastic and motivated learners who are well prepared the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life. Our learning values of creativity, curiosity, courage, communication and consideration are threaded throughout.

Our school is benefiting enormously from building on the collective strengths of the schools in the trust to further enhance and enrich our curriculum offer in conjunction with the University of Portsmouth.

We are very lucky to have extensive (and beautiful) school grounds with a forest area, sports field and outdoor swimming pool, but it is our wonderful school community of staff, governors, parents and children that makes Woodcot such a great place to work and learn.
