Opportunities for schools and pupils
The University of Portsmouth Academy Trust will ensure that schools and their pupils will be exposed to a range of initiatives and events aimed at increasing participation in Higher Education. Pupils and their families will be encouraged to engage with the University from an early age through special events, while staff will benefit from development and progression supported by the School of Education and Sociology in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.
The University’s core commitment includes guidance on teaching, learning and education management, school improvement development plans, and wider support from the School of Education and Sociology.
The University will provide the following core offer to all schools in the Trust:
Schools’ Senior Leadership Teams (SLTs) to have University access to agree initiatives involving University staff and/or resources.
Guidance on teaching, learning and education management, including school improvement development plans, with support from the University’s School of Education and Sociology.
Help to plan and design the most relevant and engaging curriculum for local children and young adults.
Co-ordinated collaboration with other academies in the Trust, to share expertise, ideas and resources.
Advocacy for your school/college and the whole Trust – nationally, regionally and in your community.
Support to develop the role of the local governing body.
Opportunities to negotiate access to specialist University departments, so you can enhance your curriculum.
Regular trips and access to University departments and their resources.
Schools’ leaders and teaching staff will have access and opportunities to engage with University teams and departments to further support curriculum development, teacher training and CPD. Schools will benefit from research-led training, teacher placements, conferences and teaching and learning events, and partnerships with the University’s School of Education and Sociology.
