Welcome to the University of Portsmouth Academy Trust

Core values

The heart and soul of UPAT is summed up in 3 core values: Belonging, Being, Becoming.

Belonging

Every school and college in the Trust will be a place where each individual student feels they truly belong. A safe, respectful learning community where diversity is celebrated and all voices valued. A community where everyone enjoys opportunity and choice in their learning and development. In which resilience is fostered and the drive to develop is nurtured. We will never give up on anyone.

Being

We’ll offer every student space and time to develop and express their own identity, as they seek and make meaning of the world. The foundation for growth is our confidence that everyone in our community has capability and competence. We promote a range of learning and development styles, encouraging all kinds of learners to harness their own unique intelligence and find their niche.

Becoming

A culture of innovation will be underpinned by ambition – to always achieve more for our whole community. We will foster creative approaches to learning and development. We’ll promote important qualities of perseverance, independence and autonomy. Our students will communicate openly, listen with empathy, think flexibly and critically, manage impulsivity and strive for accuracy.

Opportunities for schools and pupils

The University of Portsmouth Academy Trust will ensure that schools and their pupils will be exposed to a range of initiatives and events aimed at increasing participation in Higher Education. Pupils and their families will be encouraged to engage with the University from an early age through special events, while staff will benefit from development and progression supported by the School of Education and Sociology in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.

The University’s core commitment includes guidance on teaching, learning and education management, school improvement development plans, and wider support from the School of Education and Sociology.
